Life always gives us the opportunity to meet some of the most awesome people who touch us, and leave an impression , no matter how faint. The defination of "awesome" may change from person to person but since I can take the liberty of having my own perception of this word, I dedicate this blog to all these people I have met or have heard about. These are the people who would may not be very popular today and may never be able to reach the pedestal where world recognizes them , but they seem to be happy with their own world.
Last Diwali, with the desire to get everything in the house up to the mark, my mom hired some of the carpenters, among other people. As I entered my place, I could see one of the biggest mess of all time, with the couches turned upside down , the wood shavings covering the entire floor and slew of unknown faces turning to see the apparent alien who has entered. In ther midst of this confusion I was greeted by a strange voice in a most obsequious manner. Turning my face in the direction of the voice, I saw a middle aged person, around the age of my father, grinning most happily with a distinguished glean in the eyes. I folded my hands and greeted him back feeling a bit queasy for even after turning and tossing every bit of information stored in my mind that face didn't appear familiar to me.
This person then started with the usual question which my mom would normally ask me once I reach home. Like " How is your college?" " Till when do you have your break?".
This surprised me still further for I don't expect these questions from a stranger especially the one who barely knows anything about my present position. Nevertheless I answered them back in the most nonchalant manner I could. Then he asked me a question which came as an acid test for my patience........... " How is my son doing?"
"Why and how I am supposed to know your son" was what I wanted to shout but I kept quite for my better self. This person must have read my expression and began to felt his duty to enlighten me on the issue.
He started "My son is studying in IIT Kanpur with you. He is in final year doing his Chemical Engineering." Oh that really came as a blow to me. He continued " He has given some exam last month and will be going to Amrica after this. Beti what do you plan to do after your degree?". I figured out that his son must have given GRE and must be applying for some of the high profile universities there. As he was delineating all this information I could feel the blood gushing beneath the surface of my skin. To all his questions I just answered " I am not studying in Kanpur but in Roorkee and am in third year". Apparently it was not just me who was flabbergasted by what just took place but even his co-workers were trying to get the hint of what was going on.
It is not that I have not heard of all such inspiring stories of people like Dhirubhai Ambani, who made their fortune from the scratch but it was basically my encountering this incidence that made all the difference.
I wish that guy All the luck in life as I continue to pacify my all so big ego.
